Current Ways of Hoisting Car Flags
There are different sporting codes in the world, however soccer/football stands out as the largest sporting codes in the world. It is a global phenomenon that brings together millions of fans, players and cultures.
Soccer is played and followed in almost every country, thus making it a truly universal sport. Like in the rest of the world, sport especially soccer is very important to most South Africans. Sports fans are very enthusiastic and swank about the team they support. The build up towards a sporting event is a frenzied affair especially for soccer and rugby with most fans wanting to display their favourite teams’ colours, flags and not to mention the blowing of the “vuvuzela”. When the teams win, there is cheering, blowing of the “vuvuzela”, banging of dustbin lids, hooting across the largest cities and showing off of the winning teams’ colours by way of flags.
Supporters show off the flags by either using small window flags that leave a small opening in top of the vehicle’s window when closed and thus exposing the vehicle occupants to rain, dust and noise. They hold the flags through their vehicles windows or on aerials. They hold their flags by hand through an opened window or draping the flags on the vehicle’s rear window obstructing their view and obscuring number plates. This violates traffic rules.
Sport has some dedicated, enthusiastic and passionate fans. Stadiums come alive with songs and colourful displays of flags and thus turning each match into vibrant celebration.
The industry has not adequately catered for fans in that they are not provided with a device that will enable them to hoist their flags elegantly, nicely within the confines of the law.
